[Review] JOOHONEY – 光 (INSANITY)

Joohoney from MONSTA X is back with new solo music in his second mini-album ‘光 (INSANITY)’. Just a few weeks ago, he dropped the pre-release single ‘Push’ featuring IVE’s REI, a track with wintry tones that fit the season perfectly.

This new release features some impressive collaborations, and we couldn’t be more excited to dive in!

光 (INSANITY)

The album opens with ‘Gwang’, a heavy trap track with autotuned rapping and a bouncy rhythm that instantly commands attention. It’s edgy, bold, and filled with creative twists, the tempo changes toward the outro and the addition of flute instrumentals make it both experimental and captivating.

Keeping the intensity high, ‘Fear’ follows with an angsty tone that captures Joohoney’s raw energy. The song’s heart-pounding rhythm and daring production choices make it one of the most striking tracks on the album.

The title track ‘STING’, featuring Muhammad Ali, delivers everything we expect from Joohoney, power, punch, and personality. The production cleverly plays with silence, balancing sharp EDM beats and dynamic instrumentals to create a true anthem. It’s confident, catchy, and impossible to ignore.

Next up is the pre-release single ‘Push’ featuring IVE’s REI, a softer yet flirtatious track that balances smooth vocals and playful undertones. Its sultry rhythm and cheeky sound effects make it an addictive listen.

With ‘Bite’, Joohoney revisits his signature style, sharp, charismatic, and high-speed rapping paired with sleek production. The flow is immaculate, making it one of the standout B-sides of his solo work.

‘Touch the Sky’ featuring Tiger JK brings in old-school hip-hop energy with rich layers and a flawless build-up. The synergy between the two rappers is electric, and their contrasting tones elevate this song into pure fire.

Closing the mini-album is ‘NO BRAIN NO PAIN’, a track infused with rock elements, driven by guitar riffs and drums. It’s bold, loud, and the perfect ending for such a dynamic release, a powerful finale that feels like a live anthem.

Joohoney has delivered a solid and versatile mini-album, proving once again his ability to pull off multiple genres while staying true to his artistic core. You can listen to this incredible release here.
