The wait is over! JEON SOMI is finally back with her first album ‘XOXO‘. For this release, SOMI was involved in the writing of the lyrics, and we are also getting the pre-released tracks ‘Birthday’, ‘What You Waiting For’, ‘Outta My Head’ and ‘DUMB DUMB’, along with four brand new ones.
Let’s get into the music, the credits list for this album is very promising and we are expecting bop after bop!
XOXO
‘DUMB DUMB‘ kicks off this album and we are still obsessed with this single. It’s all about fun, it’s catchy and such a good listen. Check our review for this single here, and enjoy the MV below.
The title track for this album ‘XOXO‘ comes along with a break-up concept and a pop/rock-ish vibe I really liked. SOMI singing and rapping in this trap was fantastic and she definitely delivered the feeling behind this break-up song.
SOMI looks incredible in the music video, the teenage angst look mixed with vengeful ex vibe worked splendid and just gave more depth to the lyrics and feel in this single. Make sure to watch it below.
Featuring GIRIBOY, ‘Don’t Let Me Go‘ begins, her vocals in this track are fantastic and I really liked how the feature blends so well with the singing and flow of the track. This song is super catchy and a very easy listen.
‘Anymore‘ comes along and its pop/rock style I absolutely loved, the soft rock arrangement in this song really suits SOMI’s style. The sound, emotions and composition of this track are super good, and I really hope she will add more of this rock-ish vibe to future releases.
‘Watermelon‘ is that last new track in this album, written and co-composed by SOMI herself, this song goes to a more sentimental and rather emotional side with the lyrics delivery and composition. The minimalistic EDM arrangement was an excellent choice to deliver the feel of this track and it really made her vocals stand out.
‘Birthday‘ and ‘What You Waiting For‘ follow up, watch the music videos below.
Closing this release is SOMI’s b-side from her solo debut single album, ‘Outta My Head‘ is still a bop even after two year of its release.
