Chung Ha is finally back with her long-awaited full length album ‘Querencia‘. She is spoiling fans with twenty-one songs including a few pre-releases.
Let’s start listening this release, we have plenty of songs to talk about!
Querencia
This album starts off with ‘SIDE A {NOBLE}‘ a thrilling EDM intro track that opens up the first part of this part of this release. The title track ‘Bicycle‘ follows it with a mix of R&B and pop-trap that is very impressive. Chung Ha’s rapping in this song is fantastic and I am a fan of how this song’s flow leaves no chance for listeners to breathe or take in what is happening musically.
With continuous surprises, changes in tempo and very interesting layering and mixing, ‘Bicycle’ is title track that definitely continues what Chung Ha has been doing with her discography, surprising fans.
The music video as expected goes off with stunning visuals, a killer choreography and Chung Ha being the queen she is. Watch it below.
Latin rhythms take over in ‘Masquerade‘ with a touch of R&B. The trumpets in this song are just exquisite and along with the musical arrangement of it, it makes this song groovy, fun and super rich in sound. This track is unexpected and I absolutely loved it.
Pop and EDM take over in ‘Flying on Faith‘, Chung Ha’s vocals drive the tempo and flow of this song and it is very interesting to listen to. I really like how this song takes her vocals as the main piece, and uses the instrumentations to compliment it. The change in tempo and style are great and make this song one of a kind.
Last on the first part of this album we get ‘Luce Sicut Stellae‘ and what a tune, Chung Ha’s falsettos in this track are exquisite and this tack is just chill, an amazing listen that has listeners like me grooving to it.
SIDE B {Savage}
‘SIDE B {Savage}‘ is the intro for the second part of this album, this track is perfect for a drag queen runway or vogueing, is just AMAZING, it has charisma and it had me wanting to go party.
The pre-released tracks ‘Stay Tonight‘ and ‘Dream of You‘ featuring R3HAB are next. These tracks are still as relevant and amazing as they were when released a few months ago. Check the music videos belows.
Co-produced and co-written by Neo-Kpop queen SUMIN, ‘Bother Me‘ plays next and as expected this song a bop, with this track Chung Ha is showing a completely new side of herself, and she has proven once more to be an all rounder that can pull off any style. This single is amazing, experimental and fresh.
Last on this second part is ‘Chill‘, driven by bass and with a choir complimenting Chung Ha’s vocals, this track is vocal power from every side. Powerful and unique.
SIDE C {UNKNOWN}
EDM takes over in ‘SIDE C {UNKNOWN}‘ and makes this intro unexpected, kinda thrilling and mysterious.
The pre-released ‘Play’ featuring Changmo comes next. We wrote about that single here.
‘Demente’ featuring Puerto Rican singer Guaynaa follows with a lot of Latin inspired rhythms and sounds. Chung Ha is singing in Spanish and it’s so smooth. I like their collab a lot. It gives me summer beach party vibes.
Next up is ‘Lemon’ featuring Colde. This leans more towards R&B which is probably Colde’s influence as he wrote and co-composed the track. It’s groovy, catchy and I dig it.
We slide right into twangy guitars with ‘BYULHARANG’. This ballad inspired track was co-written by Chung Ha and is meant as a comfort for listeners.
SIDE D {PLEASURES}
The last side of the album is starts off with ‘SIDE D {PLEASURES}’. It’s an electronic intro that plays with sounds and rhythm.
‘X’ follows that and was pre-released a couple of weeks ago. Read more about this single here.
Next up is the single ‘All Night Long’. This track was written by Baek Yerin. It’s a soft, slow R&B ballad. Chung Ha’s pitch in this single is quite interesting.
‘Everybody Has’ comes up next and the dog you hear in the background is Chung Ha’s own dog Bambi. This is going straight into my sad vibes playlist.
After that we get ‘Comes N Goes’. This has some nice claps and an uplifting feel to it. I really enjoyed this, especially as they get into the pre-chorus, the instrumentation goes wild. Chung Ha’s vocals really carry this track so well.
We close the album ‘Querencia’ with the song ‘Querencia (epilogue)’. This is such a lovely lo-fi R&B track that cleanses the palette for a re-listen. I’m not quite sure if I understand the long silence in the middle of the track. It’s almost thirty seconds of utter silence.
