In this edition of R&B Gem, we’re shining a light on an underrated duo who have been quietly building one of the most consistent and beautiful R&B discographies in Korea. Let’s talk about Oftn.
Formed by Chang Taesoo and Lee Choowon, oftn debuted in 2018 with the single ‘Sometimes’ – a soft and emotionally charged track that introduced their smooth, soulful sound.
From their earliest releases, oftn’s music has always blended velvety vocals with atmospheric instrumentals, creating perfect ambient R&B. Between 2018 and 2019, they dropped a total of three singles and their first EP ‘draw a day’, giving listeners a taste of their mellow and emotive style.
After a brief hiatus, the duo made a stunning comeback in 2022 with ‘lost in you’, showcasing their sonic evolution. Their sound gained richer textures and more layered vocals, while still staying true to their mellow R&B roots. Their visuals also took a leap, featuring warm, aesthetic food-inspired cover art that matched the cozy feel of their tracks.
They’ve also gifted fans with collaborations featuring Sonny Zero, blending their softness with dreamy synth layers and romantic lyricism.
Their latest single ‘Seaside’, featuring Sonny Zero, is a prime example of how far their artistry has come – full of emotion, soul, and beautiful arrangement.
Oftn is one of those gems in the Indie scene we absolutely love, their evolution over their years have been incredible and their sound only gets better.
