In this edition of Rapper in the Spotlight, we’re exploring the journey of an indie rapper who started his career independently and quickly made waves with his raw style and unique sound. Let’s dive into the career of Mac Kidd.
Independent Beginnings
Hwang Dae-jin, known as Mac Kidd, debuted independently in 2019 with his single ‘Part’. Featuring fellow underground rappers like Boy Wonder, Mckdaddy, Changstar, and Chillin Homie, the track was pure underground hip-hop, showcasing Mac Kidd’s raw delivery and distinctive bouncy rapping style.
Later that year, he released his first EP, ‘Death Peace Smile’. A stark contrast to his debut single, the EP demonstrated Mac Kidd’s versatility with an intriguing mix of beats and experimental rapping delivery.

In 2020, Mac Kidd released his second EP, ‘TrapBox’, followed in 2021 by the collaborative single album ‘No No-Trap’ with Street Baby and kitsyojii. These releases solidified his position as a rising indie artist, blending creative beats and lyrical depth.
His third EP, ‘POP BOX’, dropped in the same year, featuring a more diverse sound and intriguing instrumental choices. The EP, without any guest features, allowed his artistry to shine. He followed this with the single album ‘TrapBox 2 pt.1’, further exploring his trap influences.
First Album: RAMPAGE
In 2023, Mac Kidd released his highly anticipated first album, ‘RAMPAGE’. Featuring heavyweights like YLN Foreign, Paloalto, and Huh, the album takes listeners through the evolution of his music, with each track showcasing his growth and unique storytelling abilities.
