For this week’s Patreon review we are sharing our thoughts about a PlayList Global production with no happy ending but an interesting story. Let’s chat about the 2020 web-drama ‘My Fuxxxxx Romance’.
Open Relationships
‘My Fuxxxxx Romance’ tells the story of Lee Hyun (Kim Yi Kyung), a woman who has suffered many heartbreaks and decides to date casually through dating apps. She only wants to have fun and enjoy her sexuality as much as she can, however this changes when she meets Kim Jae Ha (Oh Dong Min).
Lee Hyun shares her lifestyle with her flatmate Ahn Ji Young (Hana), a free spirited girl who is always up to have fun and rescue her friend from awkward situations with her straightforward and open personality.
Lee Hyun goes on a casual date with Yoon Min Hyuk (Kim Seung Ho), however, he has a more reserved personality and feels startled after Lee Hyun asks him to have casual sex with. He tells her that he has never done that, though he wants to meet her again.
Lee Hyun thinks that the date is a waste of time and asks her roommate Ji Young to help her out of the situation. She decides to go for a smoke and while doing so she meets Jae Ha.
Polyamorous
Jae Ha and Lee Hyun are attracted to each other and after she finds out that he is her date’s friend, decides to hook-up with him.
After her night together Lee Hyun can’t stop thinking about Jae Ha and goes back to his place, and they both start a casual relationship. Jae Ha has a polyamorous life style and has a few sexual partners. Lee Hyun is aware of this but is unable to control her feelings for him, knowing that he is not looking to commit to a relationship.
Lee Hyun starts spending more and more time at Jae Ha’s place, making Ji Young feel neglected and left aside. This causes the two friends to argue about their friendship and Ji Young reminds Lee Hyun about the reality of her relationship with Jae Ha, which will never become what she wants.
Love, revenge, healing
Ji Young is secretly in love with Lee Hyun, her jealousy leads her to sleep with Jae Ha in an attempt to feel closer to Lee Hyun by sharing the same partner.
Lee Hyun finds out about this and confronts her flatmate. This argument ends with her moving out and Ji Young, feeling devastated with the loss of her best friend and love interest.
Lee Hyun cuts all connections with Jae Ha and Ji Young, goes away in an attempt to forget everything that happened. After a while Min Hyuk contacts her to meet up and the four of them get together in a restaurant where they first met.
In that encounter, Ji Young tells her she was sorry for everything that happened and leaves asking Lee Hyun to text her once in a while, in the same way, she cuts all ties with Jae Ha, and leaves.
Overview
PlayList Global came out with a production that shows a reality that not many shows tackle. In the process of making it, they created characters that were likeable and real, normal people enjoying life how they want and it was refreshing to watch.
The characters were well portrayed, and the actors and actress did an amazing job delivering the roles. This drama was absolutely out of the box, and showed the rough reality that some may go through but not everyone is able to tell.
