NCT’s JAEHYUN has officially launched his solo career with his debut album, ‘J’. This release has been highly anticipated, especially since the drop of the pre-release singles ‘Dandelion’ and ‘Roses’, which have been on repeat ever since. JAEHYUN has already teased the style and vibe of his solo music with special NCT Lab singles like ‘Forever Only’ and ‘Horizon’, and now, with ‘J’, he has fully delivered on the promise of those earlier releases. Let’s dive into the music!
J – The 1st Album
The album kicks off with the title track ‘Smoke’, and it’s everything we expected and more. The flawless blend of R&B and Hip-Hop, combined with a fantastic bass line and the seamless mix of JAEHYUN’s vocals and rapping, creates a total listening experience that is both sexy and smooth. These vibes are elevated by the music video, which showcases his stunning visuals with a grey-scaled colour scheme for the R&B sections and saturated colours with a sepia touch for the rest. The music video is absolutely stunning, and the performance is nothing short of breathtaking.
Next up is ‘Roses’, one of our current obsessions. This track is all about sexy R&B vibes, with JAEHYUN’s vocals taking centre stage in a song that is artfully crafted and utterly captivating.
‘Flamin’ Hot Lemon’ follows, bringing a vibey R&B track with smooth samples and beats that create a laid-back listening experience driven by JAEHYUN’s effortless vocalisation and ad-libs. On a different note, the pre-release single ‘Dandelion’ comes next, offering a bright tempo and rhythm with a wholesome concept that had us absolutely smitten when it first dropped.
Just when you think it can’t get any better, ‘Completely’ plays next, featuring stunning instrumentals and incredible vocals. The emotions and minimalistic sound in this song are powerful yet delicate, making it a truly stunning listen.
‘Easy’ brings in alt-R&B vibes with looped beats and groovy singing, keeping it simple and fun while adding even more versatility to the album.
‘Can’t Get You’ switches things up with a jazzy, refreshing tempo and smooth layering. The back vocals, groove, and trumpet solo are splendid—delicate, tropical, and absolutely masterful.
The album closes with the English version of ‘Smoke’, maintaining the same sexy vibe, but now entirely in English.
JAEHYUN’s ‘J’ is not just a non-skip album—it’s a masterpiece. This album offers an incredible listening experience, taking listeners on a smooth journey that showcases his artistry and undeniable talent. JAEHYUN has absolutely killed it, and as an NCTZen, I couldn’t be prouder.
Make sure to enjoy this amazing album here!
