K-INDIE CHART – DECEMBER

We’re back with the latest edition of our K-Indie Chart for 2024 as we close the year off with the December chart. For the last month of the year there’s been a complete overhaul as only two names come back and they dropped quite a few spots.

We only have two repeaters this time, with wave to earth who’s been on a really strong run with their ‘Uncounted 0.00’ EP and Lee Seung Yoon with his album ‘Yeok Seong’.

For the other spots we have some new names. Let’s take a closer look!

Choi Yu Ree – 746

The very first spot is taken by Choi Yu Ree and her album ‘746’. This album was released onn 28 October and brings us 9 tracks including a feature with none other than Jukjae.

We’ve been following Choi Yu Ree since 2021. We were absolutely in love with her EP ‘Journey’, so I’m so happy to see her snag that number one spot with her first full-length album.

For ‘746’ she wrote and composed most of the tracks herself.

One of her two title tracks, ‘Words of Us’ sounds like a mature version of a Disney soundtrack and it is absolutely magical and warm. It will charm you.

Other standouts of the album are ‘746’ for its snazzy jazzy moment. The track ‘Echo’ featuring Jukjae had come out as a pre-release. I absolutely love their vocals together. Also the outro gave me major ‘Beauty and the Beast’ vibes, which I loved.

Shin Hae Gyeong – The Oddscape

Another one of our favorites, Shin Hae Gyeong is listed this month! He released his new full-length album ‘The Oddscape’ at the end of November. We reviewed his previous album ‘In Dreams, In Dreams’ because we were absolutely enthralled.

‘The Oddscape’ is a full album containing 9 tracks. This album is the last part of the trilogy of his trilogy with ‘The Oddscape’ being the first chapter, then ‘My Reversible Reaction’ and closing of the story is his album ‘In Dreams, In Dreams’.

The album starts off with ‘Into The Cradle’ which is dreamy, interesting and mysterious. Other standouts for me were the tracks ‘Nightfall’ for its incredible guitar section, ‘Melon’ for its wonderful instrumental section and ‘From Beyond’ for its cathartic closure.

Speedround

The band Far East Asian Tigers jumped on the list with their November album ‘A Tiger’s Dream’. If you like rock, then you’re at the right place with Far East Asian Tigers. The album definitely has some bangs! I recommend listening to ‘Myunmok Middle School’, ‘What I believed in’ and ‘Petrichor’.

Meaningful Stone blessed the world with her new full-length album ‘Angel interview’ and it’s the insane level of quality we’ve come to expect from her. I enjoyed this part of her album description: “This album is a collection of stories that angels told me. It contains answers to the most trivial questions and the still unanswered questions of life. However, I think this interview can be summarized in one word. Angels, who exist everywhere and in everything, are always watching over us.”

Listen to ‘Mikael’, ‘I open the window instead of the closed door’ and ‘Yogananda’.
