This week’s Indie Pick is Fromm and I couldn’t be more excited about this one. I’ve been listening to her music from the very beginning of when I got interested in Korean music and I’ve continued to fall in love with her discography every time she releases something new. So let’s dive in!
The beginnings
Fromm is a singer-songwriter and composer and has been active in the industry since 2012 under Label LIM. Here’s her Instagram in case you decide to follow her after reading the article.
She debuted with the single ‘It wasn’t love’ that was later also on her first album ‘Arrival’. Though unfortunately that album isn’t on her Spotify. However I found it here on Bandcamp.
The song ‘Pieces of you and me’ is actually the first song I ever heard. The feature on this track is Giriboy, so can I say the TASTE popped out. On her EP ‘ERICA’ she has an acoustic version of the song as well, this time with Park Juwon. You can find that on Spotify here.
Throughout the years Fromm continues to amaze with interesting sounds and beautiful lyrics.
This song literally had me in tears when I first saw the music video. ‘The Aftermath’ featuring Minhyun of NU’EST is literally a god tier combination. Their voices work so well together. This song is perfection in its simplicity. The music video is not experimental or explosive, rather it hits in its quietness.
Here are some of the lyrics:
“That’s how it is for all of us, we all go on living
Lyrics taken from the MV subtitles
feeling some kind of emptiness,
some kind of emptiness in our heart
Just like us, just like you and me”
If that doesn’t hit you in the gut, I’m not sure what will.
OSTs
Fromm also has a couple of beautiful OSTs for K-dramas like ‘He is psychometric’, ‘Angel’s last mission: Love’, ‘Twelve Nights’ and ‘The secret life of my secretary’.
On a last note, I want to share this live performance of ‘Milan Blue’ on Mihwadang live because it’s absolutely beautiful.
I hope you enjoyed discovering the indie gem Fromm or maybe it was re-discovering some long lost favorite. Go take a look at her Spotify and enjoy the rest of her discography.
