In this week’s drama review, we dive into the heartwarming world of a web novel turned drama with a fresh cast and an adorable love story. Let’s talk about ‘My Sweet Mobster’.
Based on the Naver web novel ‘The Woman Who Plays’ by Bangulmama, ‘My Sweet Mobster’ follows the unlikely romance between a children’s content creator and a former gangster turned businessman, who comes to her aid during the lowest point in her life.
The Story
Go Eun-Ha (Han Sun-Hwa) is a moderately successful content creator for a toy company, but her life takes a sharp downturn when she gets caught up in a scandal, causing her to lose both her job and her home overnight.
Enter Seo Ji-Hwan (Um Tae-Goo), a former gangster who has left his troubled past behind to live a quiet and lawful life as the CEO of a food company.
The two meet in a rather unconventional way—after filming a video in which Eun-ha is dressed as a police officer, she is mistaken for the real deal and ends up cuffing Ji-Hwan after a misunderstanding at a nightclub.
Growing Closer
Despite their rocky start, Eun-Ha and Ji-Hwan keep crossing paths in the most unexpected places, slowly growing closer. Ji-Hwan soon realizes that Eun-Ha is the same little girl he once protected during their childhood. Although she has been searching for him for years, he chooses to keep his identity a secret.
When Eun-Ha becomes homeless, Ji-Hwan offers her a place to stay, helping her rebuild her life and restart her content creation career. As they spend more time together, Eun-Ha becomes close not only to Ji-Hwan but also to his employees—people with troubled pasts who are also trying to lead better lives.
However, this newfound happiness is threatened when Ji-Hwan’s past comes back to haunt him.
A Light-Hearted Rom-Com
‘My Sweet Mobster’ is a delightful rom-com about second chances and self-reinvention. The drama touches on themes of self-forgiveness and accepting one’s past while focusing on becoming better in the present for the future. All of this unfolds as love and friendship blossom in the most unexpected ways.
