We’re back with a new Indie Pick, this time we’re writing about Han Hee Jung.
Han Hee Jung is a Korean indie singer-songwriter who debuted as a soloist in 2008. Before that, she was part of the band The The that debuted in 2001 and the duo Bluedawn that debuted in 2003.
Her solo debut came in the shape of the album ‘Your Document’. Honestly, the album is still a wonderful listen that feels very fresh and has a great indie folk vibe to it.
The EP ‘String’ was her next release. Her collab with NELL is such a smooth listen.
In 2010 Han Hee Jung came back with ‘Cruel Journey’.
She also acted in the film ‘Dancing Zoo’ that year.
In 2013 the new album ‘날마다 타인’ was released. The title track ‘Soil’ feels more experimental than the previous ones. The sound has an interesting layering with a groovy electric guitar thrown in.
Her next EP ‘Slow Dance’ came out in 2015 and has some stunning ballads. Her title track literally gave me chills when I heard it the first time. It’s amazing.
The next album ‘NOTATE’ was a collection of songs that were released from 2008 to 2015. The songs were rearranged into acoustic versions.
In 2019, the two female powerhouses Kim Sawol and Han Hee Jung teamed up for the single ‘Metaphor’.
The year after she came back with the EP ‘Two Me’.
I was absolutely obsessed with her next album ‘Space Reaction’. The song ‘Cabbage Juice’ tickled the right spot in my brain and it hasn’t left my playlist since.
Her 2021 release ‘NOTATE’ is another remake of some of her older songs put in a new jacket.
OSTs
We can’t talk about Han Hee Jung without her impressive list of OSTs. She’s created works for ‘Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo’, ‘Stranger’, ‘Misaeng’ and more.
Han Hee Jung is a brilliant singer-songwriter who creates music that will last through the test of time. Her voice is super soft but definitely doesn’t lack power.
