Mini Album Review: WJSN – As You Wish

The girls from WJSN are back! They released their seventh mini album: ‘As You Wish’.

Let’s dive into it, I’m excited!

‘As You Wish’

We start off the mini album with the title track: ‘As You Wish’.

The video is freaking adorable. I’m really digging the cute intro with the warped voice. It’s a very upbeat, happy song. The song has a super catchy chorus that is gonna be an ear worm, I guarantee it. Also the chanting towards the end is great.

‘Luckitty-cat’ is up next. What an amazing, retro space sound! I kind of wish this had gotten a video as well. I think that’d have been dope. The rapline really came through on this one. This is probably one of my favorites of the mini-album.

With the third track we go to the soft ‘LIGHTS UP’. It’s a waltzy ballad, with beautiful strings and piano. It really lets their vocals shine. I’m getting a lot of Christmas vibes. The last thirty seconds make this the softest song on ‘As You Wish’.

We’re picking up the rhythm again with the next song ‘WW’. The girls are singing in a very staccato way, which fits the beat perfectly and makes this a very funky, happy song. ‘WW’ is fire and there’s nothing that can change my mind. What an amazing B-side track.

The fifth song is ‘BADABOOM’. This song starts off a bit darker, a lot more sassy. The chorus is DOPE. The ‘lalalilalalay’ part caught me off guard, but I loved it!

‘Full Moon’ sounds like it would be an amazing collab with LOONA. Heavy EDM instrumentation and a more mature sound. The chorus is almost completely instrumental and I need to hear this in a nightclub.

The last song is ‘Don’t Touch’ and just WOW. The intro is fire, a lot of marching band vibes. But then we get into the actual song and it feels so fresh and has so many different effects going on at once. It almost feels aggressive.

‘As You Wish’ is a fantastic mini-album! It totally convinced me to do a deep dive into WJSN’s discography because that was a wild ride, start to finish. I’m a bit shook to be honest.
