[Indie Pick] Zagmachi

We’re back with a new Indie Pick and this time we’re focussing on one of our personal favorites, Zagmachi.

The folk rock band Zagmachi consists of five members; Kim Tae-gyeol, Jeong So-ri, Han Ye-chan, Jo Sung-il, and Hyo-geun Yoon.

Debut

Zagmachi debuted in 2016 with the single album ‘Rhinoceros’. They started off as a trio with members Kim Jin-Mok (vocalist, lyricist), Jo Sung-il (bassist) and Kwon Daeyoon (guitarist).

With their next comeback ‘You and I’ in 2017, they added member Yoon Hyo-geun who plays the drums.

Their 2018 single ‘God’s Lament’ remains one of my personal favorites by them, together with their previous track ‘You and I’. The music video is brilliantly done and it just really is such an amazing track with great instrumentals and the vocals super sharp and staccato.

Zagmachi came out with their first mini-album in 2018. The title track ‘Live in Seoul’ is a nostalgic love song to the city.

After the mini-album, they released three more singles that year.

After a year hiatus, they came back in 2020 with two singles and their first full-length album.

‘Sea’ was written for the victims of the Sewol Ferry Accident

The album ‘Annyeong’ has a double title track; ‘Choked up’ and ‘Moving Out’.

I’m very excited to see where the band continues to go. I think they create original, cool music that deserves a lot more attention.
